WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE?

DS1, age 6, had been cheeky since we got home from school. He had warnings and if he hadn't have been eating his tea, would have got sent to his room. It felt a bit too much to make him miss out on his meal. He is a good eater and always hungry so it would have upset him. I also wasn't fed as a child so don't always have the right approach to food. I know you might say if he had gone hungry, it would have taught him a lesson, but he forgets things so quickly at times I would need to remember it so I could remind him, so that wouldn't really work for us. What should I have done?

I would have said "When you finish your food you can go & sit in your room & have a think about the way you behave". And then not talk to him during his meal & let him go to his room.

By not talk I don't mean huff, or be abrupt, just do something else, no communication if ya like.

Good idea.

I would have sent him to his room, put his dinner in the microwave and let him eat it later.
