Doesn't like play doh?

My 2yo is not at all interested in play doh. I've tried to sit down and show him but he just wanders off and plays with other stuff

Isn't this a bit odd as I thought most kids are into play doh by age 2

They do tend to love it but I don't think it's anything to worry about. You could try moonsand instead. My 22MO loves this atm. It's just flour and baby oil and behaves quite like real sand so can be scooped/poured/moulded. There's tonnes of other things he can do to inspire the same skills and creativity so just have a play around with some things

This is the type of things he does if we are at home, does it sound normal for almost 2yo?

Building towers
Stacking rings on the pole
Bashing things about and making noise
Reading
Pulling things of the shelves
Climbing on the sofa

He generally likes going where he shouldn’t like trying to open cupboards in the kitchen etc

My DS (24m) loves playing with cars, trains, tractors buses etc - doesn’t care what it is as long as it has 4 wheels! So when we play with play doh we tend to incorporate that sort of thing, so making tunnels out of play doh for his trains and running cars over it etc. My DS also really likes to play with dried pasta, which is a bit messy but not too hard to clear up!

I think the others things you’ve listed sounds pretty normal for an almost 2 year old, but things definitely got easier for us once my boy got into trains - he has wooden ones where he builds the track, takes it apart and starts again! We’re starting to do a bit of imaginative play with the trains too, so we kissed the train better when it fell over and they go to sleep etc. We also have a ramp that cars go down (and have also made makeshift ones), he has a shape sorter bus which he likes to use as as bus but will also do the shape part. We play hide and seek, where I pretend to look for him in places he’s clearly not and then ‘finding’ him, and I chase him around a lot. He’s overall a super active boy so we spend a lot of time out and about but hopefully you might have gotten some ideas!

It all sounds like a typical diary of an almost 2YO OP. Add in 'climb on everything, dive-bomb mummy and try and throw things into the toilet as soon as mummy isn't looking' and it's pretty much my dd's schedule Grin As long as he's hitting his milestones and seems happy I wouldn't worry. How about incorporating some stacking cups/shape sorter/puzzles in addition to his blocks and rings and expand on these skills a bit. Brio train sets are fab as well because they incorporate creativity and problem solving into a vehicle theme. My LG loves hers. Nothing wrong with dolls and play kitchens for little boys too. My LG loves her's and they've really helped her come along with imaginative play and speech. He sounds fine though. He's not going to come to any harm because he doesn't like playdoh and he may well decide he loves it some day. Just carry on playing with him and he'll be fine xx
