DS cadges for food

Hi all,

My DS is 18months old. He is super full of beans and has tonnes of energy! The past few weeks he has become obsessed with food. I do my best to cook fresh fulfilling food for him every day but as soon as he lays eyes on food (fruit on the kitchen counter for example) he just goes nuts for some. Even after a main meal! He always has a snack in the morning and one in the afternoon but it's almost like they don't touch the sides!

The hardest bit is if I am eating or my DH is, he'll try and grab food off the plate. Sometimes he will just beg for food at our side. I'm sure this reads as he is just hungry and a growing lad but I find that hard to believe that's the only cause when he has decent sized meals and regular snacks.

My question is - is this just behavioural and part of his development? We are working on boundaries with him so is just a case of being super firm with him that he can't just eat everything!? Anyone else have experience with this? He has lots of play time out in the community so he is burning calories but I'm scared this could evolve into greedy behaviour as he grows!

Any advice will be much appreciated

Fanny (flaps)

I don't know, he is still a baby and I can remember nicking food off my dad's plate when I was tiny.

However, if you all sit around the table and eat together, at least once a day and at weekends, that problem may be solved.

Little growing kids do like to snack. Fruit and yoghurt are good, cheese and biscuits too. Mine always ate a lot when he was little as did his friends.

Can you give us an idea of what he drinks and eats in a day?
