Should I worry?

I’ve got a call to talk to the Health Visitor tomorrow as my 21 month old son is really struggling at night with night terrors, nightmares, shouting in his sleep and grinding his teeth. Last 2 days he's been telling me things are loud (whilst holding his ears) and that he's scared even though nothing different about the environment or situation he is in. Do you think this behaviour is anything to worry about? Thanks.

Have you took him to gp to see if maybe he has an ear infection?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 09/01/2020 07:35

Getting him checked for an ear infection sounds like a good idea.

Has the HV suggested doing the M-Chat too? It might help to put your mind at rest.

Took him to GP and she just said speak to Health Visitor. Waiting for a call back from HV as she wasn't available when I called.

I'm surprised the GP didn't check his ears.
Mid do the m-chat and give your HV another call Smile

Just spoken to Health Visitor who said the Nursery Nurse will call me as they're more equipped to deal with these issues. Did the M-Chat and came back 0%. Health Visitor did mention ear infection so might take a trip to Pharmacist or GP when he's home from his grandparents.

Really surprised the GP didn't check his ears! How did it go with the nursery nurse?

MaddieY · 12/01/2020 22:21

Nursery Nurse told me to try the 'disappearing chair' method. Don't feel like I can when he's having nightmares, he needs comforting so I can't sit in his room not engaging with him. Took him back to GP to get his ears checked and was told they're perfect. So I'm still at a loss...

I would be comforting him too if my child was having nightmares and is scared. Are the nights any better now?

MaddieY · 18/01/2020 19:00

No, still waking up in the night crying. Tried everything I can think of - no tv before bed, reading books, lavender in his room, light, no light, music, no music...not sure what else to try!

Relaxing bath and milk before bed? Does he nap ok during the day?

MaddieY · 19/01/2020 08:11

He's has bath and then milk as part of his bedtime routine. He's always napped until the last week or so. Nothing we do will get him to nap - yesterday I took him puddle jumping and he was running round and jumping for an hour but lasted all day and wouldn't go to sleep until 8:30pm!
