Looking for advice please, my 14 month old has never been a great sleeper but when things that are different happen e.g. birthday parties, holidays, Christmas he just cannot cope and end up overtired and hyper. Over Christmas with the excitement of seeing lots of family and new toys, he is now extremely overtired, he cannot calm down. He is fighting all naps and bedtime, and is awake for 2 hours during the night unable to fall back to sleep.
We have a few quiet days now and would love to be able to calm him down and get his sleep back on track, and advice would be greatly appreciated!
Also, if anyone had a baby / toddler who found any changes very disruptive when did it start getting easier??

My son was like this up for a few hours in the night, never a good sleep as life is soooo exciting for him. Tbh we noticed an improvement when he stopped napping completely but yours is still too young for that. Some advice a sleep consultant gave us (for our 7 month old daughter) 1. Always feed downstairs so they associate upstairs for bedtime, 2) only give a bath at night for 10 mins max as it’s a stimulant. 3) warm bath, not like warm 4) lights dimmed in all places to help melatonin 5) in total bedtime routine should be no longer than 30 mins 6) nap time use dark room, white noise. Always be consistent and try not to pick them up out of there cot when settling. I hope this helps a little.

Might be worth re posting in the sleep section? I didn’t realise for ages that there was a sleep section on MN - but there is!

It all sounds pretty normal to me but I can appreciate how tiring it must be for you.

For his sleep, have you tried the No Cry Sleep Solution? We had some success with it although I think a lot of our might wakings were due to tongue tie.

If he's getting over excited when you have visitors, do feel free to tell people and take him out for a walk to try to calm him down a little Thanks
