Dummy removal

Hello just wondering if anyone has any advice my daughter just turned 3 has recently giving up the dummy in exchange for a toy from the dummy fairy.
The understanding is present at bedtime but after about 2-3 hours she wakes up crying I thought it was night terrors unable to comfort so I end up giving dummy back and removing it when I go to bed.
I just want to know do I preserve with it how it’s going and hopefully she won’t eventually wake up for it she got lots of teddies with her but nothing subsitutes a dummy.
I would of done the cry it out method but when I have older children in the house it’s difficult.
Has anyone else experienced this if so does it get better

In exactly the same boat as you. DS is 4.5 and gave his dummies to the elf 2 days ago. The last two nights have been hell but we are still fighting through. Although had to talk DH out of giving them back a few times. Good luck

It’s so hard... just unsure what to do for the best I’ve cut the top completely off the dummy now and I’m going to gradually cut bit by bit until it’s completely gone.. I ended up giving it back to her the crying is like a sleep crying... I’ve stopped in day it’s just the night I’ve had about 3 nights in the past month where she’s not had it at all and made a massive fuss with presents etc the understanding is there but it’s doesn’t last

You have to just not give in, it's horrible isn't it. We took my DS' night time dummy away a couple of months before he turned 3, we did the whole dummy fairy/present etc but it was horrible. He broke his heart, crying saying I want my dummy. I was heavily pregnant and was in tears myself but we didn't give in. He was absolutely fine after the first night though, even for his first nap the following day (he only ever had it to sleep). Don't think he's forgiven us one year on though!

Well that’s great only 1 night. I’ll be up all night wish I never started this whole dummy thing tbh.
It’s so hard no to give in when there crying a midnight for what seems like ages and you know there be exhausted and cranky the next day... I’m going keep trying didn’t think it will be like this

Reading with interest. We are planning to go no dummy too this holiday. DC is quite delayed in understanding so won’t get the whole giving it to elf / baby / for a toy etc. I’m dreading it.

I would assume cold turkey is best - but totally get why that would be difficult.

Good luck it all starts off with good intentions but fails as the night progresses. Thinking cold turkey to be honest and just ride it out

Hi all, hope it's ok to gatecrash! I've decided I need to get my 21 month old away from his 'dodo's. We try to limit it to bed and nap time but when he's feeling a bit under the weather (like today) he will not give it up, and will honestly tearfully ask for it all day, which makes me feel awful.
Is cutting it a good technique then? I think he's too young to understand the 'give it to the fairies' bit.

The only other thing I'm concerned at is that his baby sister will be arriving in the new year and whilst I have ruled out a dummy at this stage, you just never know, and if he sees her with one, will we be back to square one?!
