Naughty behaviour

Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how I can stop my 4 year old from hitting and pushing overs at nursery please.
He’s usually a very lovely boy, very cuddly and friendly and extremely bright for his age. For the past month or so he’s been hurting his friends at nursery for reasons I’m not sure of, I ask him why and he just says they are annoying him.
The school put him in time out every time he does it, and I take his treats and iPad time away from him for that day.. even threatened Santa won’t bring him presents. But nothing is working! He goes the next day and does the same thing again. At my wits end as I don’t want the other parents to start getting annoyed with me.

Hi, My understanding is "naughty" behaviour is a form of communication, children his age aren't sure of their emotions and feelings. Therefore, when they act out it comes across like they are bold. But really they are trying to communicate but no sure how too.

He has clearly said his friends are annoying him. So, I would be exploring this. How are they annoying him, what would help him feel more at ease?

He is telling you what's wrong and the response he is getting from adults is that he is naughty. So his frustration is growing and his behaviour isn't changing because he isn't being heard. He needs to feel heard.

I hope this helps.

I agree with the previous poster.

I'm shocked at the way nursery handles it, don't they know anything about development of young children? Leaving him in time out? They need to work out why he is doing it, you can't you aren't there. Surely they know a 4 year old acts on emotions and not instructions?
