a 3 year old with pester power?

far too young I think!

moljam · 22/08/2007 22:08

i dont have one so cant comment on it really but would have thought 3 was very young!

stickyj · 22/08/2007 22:10

No ab not, she's too young and should be doing other stuff. I bet she's not an only one, is she and has perfected pester power to the nth degree. Just say no and mean it

cylon · 22/08/2007 22:10

yes i think your three year old is too young.

ds2 has one aged six. i think he is a little young as well. but pester power, couopled with older brother who has a psp, and dh all meant that he got one for his brithgday.
dd aged 4 wants something. it i unfair that she doesnt have a handheld console whilst her brothers do. but tought. i thik her eyesite and concentrations kills are more important.
three is imo definitly too young

Ceolas · 22/08/2007 22:10

No way. Definitely too young. Am just considering it for DD1 aged 7.

IdrisTheDragon · 22/08/2007 22:11

DS will be 4 in November and I can't imagine gettinmg him one.

ScoobyDooooo · 22/08/2007 22:13

My ds is 4.11 & has had one for about 8 months, he loves does not play it to often though the novelty does wear off.

MerlinsBeard · 22/08/2007 22:13

no!

whats wrong with playng outside?

scienceteacher · 22/08/2007 22:13

I think 3 is too young. My 8, 10 and 13 yo's have them, but I think my 8yo struggles with her attention span. My 5yo likes to dabble, but only with texting the others. I don't think she can really manage the games.

UCM · 22/08/2007 22:14

I think (I have a nearly 4 year old) that one day your DD will be pestering you for the much more expensive one. Isn't it better to let her play with dolls & prams and suchlike instead of creating a rod for your own back. Apart from the fact that these games are, in my opinion, a bit isolating unless used properly. I have friends who have 5 year olds who use them for hours & hours, never have any fun with their parents, just beep, click, beep, click. Shameful.

LIZS · 22/08/2007 22:14

No I don't think they really understand how to use them until 5 or 6 at earliest let alone how to treat them gently. If she is that desperate I'm sure you can find another hand held game which would keep her happy, it is the idea more than the thing itself.

FrannyandZooey · 22/08/2007 22:14

How does she know what it is?

ScoobyDooooo · 22/08/2007 22:15

I must also add ds only plays super mario.

stickyj · 22/08/2007 22:16

my 12 yr old has been pestering for yrs and has gone off it now. It's a lot of money for a 3 yr old...could get loads of great toys with that/books/jigsaws/anything that stops her growing uo too fast. Sand pit, crayoyns, soft stuff?

ChasingSquirrels · 22/08/2007 22:16

personally I wouldn't even consider it.

twospecialgirls · 22/08/2007 22:34

she knows what they are as older cousins have one and dad has a psp !!!! all his fault i blame him !!! i agree would rather make bracelets with her or play on trampoline!
very hard as she doesnt stop going on ! shes 3 going on 17 haha

rock · 22/08/2007 22:39

Don't get one!!
3yrs is to young as with most games you will need to read instructions.
My ds is 9 and I wish dh had never bought it for him. He is obsessed by playing with nintendo. He will also be grumpy if he plays for longer than 45 minutes. I try to limit it to 30 minutes but it causes constant arguing. He will also fight more with his younger brother after having played. This will wear off. Feel like throwing it away at times.
Any suggestions out there??

Nemo2007 · 22/08/2007 22:40

Probably going against the grain but I have a DS and ds has been playing it for a while, he is 3.10yrs. He knows exactly what he is doing and will play dogs or mario kart[only 2 games I have]. He is more than capable to play with it but I dont think I would have purposely bought one FOR him.

Egg timer sounds like a good idea as ds will not be able to argue with it. Will give it a go .
