Ds 9 no friends

My ds 9 has always struggled to make
Friends . I'm not exactly sure why. He probably is a little less mature than some of his more worldly wise class mates which I think is part of it.
This year he is a split class and is definitely feeling it more.
Academically he is good and he is good at most sports if that's relevant .
Any advice as to how to help him would be appreciated .

Could you speak to the teacher and find out some children he may get in with (same interests, hobbies etc) then invite them round for tea. Also after schools clubs, swimming lessons, football clubs is all a way of getting him to be part of a team and sociable.

Thanks . He does do a lot of activities and he's ok at those , not brilliant but ok. He is shy and very slow to walk up to someone and chat even if he knows them reasonably well. His teacher this year hasn't been as good as previous years though so I don't have much faith in her. Maybe she'll prove me wrong.

If that’s the case do you know any of the mums to speak to them and arrange one to come for tea, really it would be nice if another child was shy like your son. I think apart from the above to try I think your son will come out of his shell in his own time or he may just be an introverted person, I’m an introvert and I love having time on my own.

Thanks ladiies. I've always known that his social skills were probably on the poor side but it's only really starting to bother him now and hence me now.. he's a little immature but I honestly don't think there anything more going on with him. No rigid behaviour . Sensory issues. Decent at sport and academically too . It's just the social side of things that doesn't come easy to him.
You ve inspired me now to pull out my finger and arrange some play dates .

The other thing is, if he is a little immature for his age then you could always ask the teacher from the class below him, as at the moment it’s all about improving his social skills. Google activities in your local areas as some as specifically aimed to improve confidence, it maybe worth a look.
