My 12 month old was 7 weeks premature and spent a month in the nicu now she is active so sweet and walks unassisted , eats solids , but she doesn't point she will just get what she wants to play with or cries if it's out of reach and she reaches out for hugs and to be lifted but doesn't stack blocks or point but she knows how to pick up with index finger and thumb and they said it's suppose to be developed at this stage ... should I be worried?

No need to worry just yet! Any time up until 18months is normal. I worried for such a long time that my boy wasn’t pointing but was told to wait until 18months. So as soon as he turned 18months I took him to the HV on the Monday and on the Thursday he started pointing! He’s been pointing a million times a day since then and doesn’t seem to have any major concerns (he has a bit of a speech delay, but his speech is improving too!).

It’s so hard not to worry, or indeed to be told you have to wait to worry, but please try not to! Your DD has plenty of time to start pointing Smile

My son was born overdue and he still didn't start pointing until just after he turned 12 I think! Still not waving consistently. I asked the health visitor at 11 months if it was normal for him not to point or wave yet and she said absolutely fine!

Pointing to request and to share interests tends to emerge between 12M-18M of age, that would be the normal range. After 18M it would be considered late.

Thanks guys! Ya my DD doesn't wave consistently either but then again she usually only sees me for most of the week, I'll keep an eye on it and if nothing my 18 months hitting the panic button lol
