could he be moving to one nap per day rather than two? Is there an obvious one to give up?

How long is he sleeping at night (what times) and when do you put him down for his day nap?

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 20/08/2007 15:01

he sleeps around 8-7 night time, and day time he normally would have 9-10 and around 3-5, have just managed a 1-2 but now he wont nap this pm and will be grotty by dinner!!

ime lots of children give up naps before they are ready for them and you just have to put up with it and try and alter other timings to make it work better. I would keep to the 1-2 nap and then try to bring his bed time forward a bit to 7 rather than 8.

He was probably over tired at 1. Try and get him down after an early lunch. 11.30-12 for his 2 hours and bring bedtime forward to 6 if you have to. That'll keep him going for a month or so and then his am will creep forward to 12.30/1 and you can move his bedtime back again.
Star chart for 2.9yo or threat of death if he wakes baby up!

I agree with Tracy. It is a long time without a nap between 10 am and 3pm.....now that he's 9 months and probably more active and using more muscles and using his brain more etc etc I think it's quite possible that he may just be ready for an earlier nap. I used to give ds lunch at about 12 and then down for a nap afterwards and it seemed to work really well, he slept for 2 hours probably cos his tummy was nice and full!

He went to bed at around 6pm at this age. Which I know is early, but it worked for us.

All you can do is try a couple of different ideas I guess. You can't make him nap if he won't, but I do think putting them down before they are TOO tired does help. Apparently you need a certain amount of 'energy' just to get off to sleep, which is why they won't settle when overtired.

Agree with Tracy - I remember this phase with my little ones the cutting down from 2 to one nap a day is challenging for a couple of weeks but then they settle into a post lunch 2 - 2.5 hour nap which is bliss
