10 months old's development...?

Hi, looking for some advice as I'm really starting to panic about my DD.

She's just turned 10 months old and it's becoming increasingly obvious that she's not developing at the same rate as other babies.

She has never rolled, hates tummy time with a passion, has never attempted to crawl and struggles to sit up without support. She also struggles to pick things up and doesn't reach out, wave or play peek a boo. We did manage to teach her to clap the other day, which she's so proud of!

We had the HV out doing a 10 month check the other day (at our request cos we're worried) and she showed cause for concern in all areas. Out of about 20 questions, we only managed to answer positively for about 3.

HV now agrees that there's a delay and is going to do a referral for a paediatrician, physio and occupational therapist but I'm so worried about her. She also recommended that the Optician examines her as HV thinks her sight might be poor.

She had a bad case of bronchiolitis at 3 months so I'm scared this has affected her development but I think I'm even more scared that it might be something else.

Had anyone got some lovely reassuring advice/stories to calm me down?
Or can you think of anything else that we could be doing to help her?

Thanks x

My son did really badly on his 10 month questionnaire. Although he was just about crawling by 10 months , he didn't roll until around 9 months and wasn't bearing weight at all until almost a year old. He's almost 13 months now and finally I've stopped worrying about him as he's finally catching up and is less behind. But I do understand your fears! He wasn't clapping at 10 months by the way and is only just now starting to wave and point. The difficulty sitting up would concern me but I know my husband didn't walk until 18 months, never crawled, and wasn't good st sitting up until almost a year old... and he's an amazing athlete now.

Thanks for your reply. It's reassuring to hear there's others that have been similar and have caught up.

I guess the crawling doesn't really bother me because I know it's quite common for them not to crawl but yeah, the sitting up does worry me.

Did your wee one get referred to anyone in particular? Or was there anything that helped him catch up?

Arghhh just wrote a massively long reply and then lost it!!

In short - he was seeing physiotherapist, now discharged. That was on the NHS. I recommend you push for that, but if you can't get an appointment you could get a private one (make sure they are specifically paediatric). HV should refer you though. Also my son saw a neurologist on the NHS at one point as he had a severe arm preference (now gone). Again, worth fighting for an appointment. If you're in Surrey I can give you contact details for a good paediatric physio (whose specialised is neurophysio).

To reassure you further, despite my son being referred to a physiotherapist and a neurologist, he is (as far as we know!) 100% fine. Important to get checked out though and you really should get a referral- if not, you'll have to be assertive.
