DS is only on 2nd percentile for height - what should I do? we are not tall, (5'3 and 5'7) but even so - he seems so small.

trying not to become too anxious as he is a happy tot, but any hints on super foods for growth etc most appreciated.

thankyou

Um, well short of stretching him there's not a lot you can do!

As long as he eats well, I can't think of anything you can do to make him taller - it's an issue of genetics. You and your dh are unlikely to produce a giant.

He might shoot up at puberty.

How old is he? What percentile is he on for weight? Are you bf? BF babies can tend to be a bit smaller / leaner than ff babies. If he is alert and active, has plenty of wet nappies, I wouldn't worry a jot and don't let any HV tell you otherwise either, esp. if he is in proportion with the weight percentile. If you are weaning, don't force food down him to make him grow, just give him as much as he wants.

Difficult to comment more without more info on age, weight and current feeding etc. but hope this helps.

By definition someone is going to be on the 2nd percentile. And it's very likely to be someone with fairly short parents. If he's happy and healthy and generally eating well I think you just need to stop stressing about it (easier said than done, I know).

My DS is only on the 9th centile for height (and thats with a 6'3 Dad!)and I've been worried he won't be very tall but HV assures me he is well as his weight is on the same centile so he is in proportion so I would repeat other posters - as long as he is health and happy then try not to worry. He will be as tall as he is going to be and I don't think there is much you can do to control that.

Desiderata · 16/08/2007 13:00

It is unlikey that your ds will be taller than 5.8' or 5.9' as a grown adult, given the height of his parents.

If he stays on the 2nd percentile for height, he will be a 5ft 3" adult at twenty. This is unlikely given your husband's height, and the extra few inches you seem to have to add these days!!

I'm sure you'll see him moving up the percentiles before too long

Very athletic children tend to be tall and lean but I don't think you can force and aptitude for sport on anyone.
