Asd pathway

Hi,
My son was placed on the asd pathway beginning of September this year. He is nearly 4. I have no understanding of the pathway at all, I have tried reading about it but I don't fully understand it. Does him being on the pathway mean he has autism? Or is this just the lead up to it? Thanks if anyone can help me out x

I could be wrong but i think its for suspected autism and will lead to assessment (multi disciplinary) and possibly diagnosis. It isn't called that in my area though.

What assessments has he had so far? is he getting LEA funded extra support in pre-school/nursery? (this important because along with the funding comes accountability) or does he go to a special needs nursery?

Oh thank you, we have only been the hospital once and that was when they put him on the pathway we have to go back in 6 months time. He is kind of on a one to one with a nursery teacher (although the teacher has another child with them) thank you for replying x

Basically what Mummy0ftwo12 has already said above. Being placed in the ASD pathway normally tends to mean that a professional has seen enough concerns for them to suspect autism. However, it is not possible to diagnose autism by just looking at a child once or even twice (so this professional could be wrong), so being in the pathway will give your son access to a professional assessment and observation in order for the professionals to understand him better and identify if he has any underlying conditions like autism.
