Moving from bottle to straw cup

My LO has turned 12 months and HV has informed me that she needs to drink milk out of a straw cup to lessen risk of tooth decay. So I've bought a straw cup, but anyone any ideas how to teach their baby to suck from a straw?!?! 😂 also is a straw cup really necessary, couldn't they go from bottle to beaker within 18 months? Any straw tips are really welcomed cos my LO just seems to love chewing it!

They can just drink out of a normal cup at that age. I assume baby eats 3-4 normal meals a day as well. I'd give normal cup and see how it goes. Worked for mine

Hmmm most of the liquid goes everywhere whilst they're learning to grasp how to drink from a normal cup, so they wouldn't be getting enough liquids just solely using a normal cup! Thanks anyway..

For milk we mostly use sippy cups but she does use straw cups for water a fair bit. I can't remember when she learned to use them, I think about 12 months. It took a few times of introducing each new one. The one she took to first was the Tommee Tippee one because she had the sippy cup of the same range so the similarity was familiar. She used to lift it up high like a sippy cup to start with until she realised after a few weeks that she didn't need to. I think sucking some of the liquid up right into the straw so they can taste it straight away helped too.
