Dummy use

Soooo just wanting opinions on dummy use please. My baby is 18 months and uses it nap time and bed time and sometimes in the day if he's very upset and we can't comfort him otherwise. I'm trying to wean him off it for day time use and just distract him with cuddles or another toy or activity but that doesn't always work and sometimes he just won't calm down so then I end up giving dummy which I feel bad about but what can I do

I guess I'm just worried that he's gonna have it for too long and it'll be harder to take it off him and as I said I'm trying now but it doesn't always work. I don't wan to just go cold turkey

We are in a similar situation with 20 month old daughter. We have started to put her dummy in a bag when she wakes up and she only gets it out when she's going to sleep. There have been some tears, especially in the car and buggy but she is starting to realise the only time her dummy is available is at sleep times. We also have a 5 year old boy who was similar and he had a dummy for sleep until just after he turned 3, the dummy fairy took them away one night and after a couple of nights he was fine. I think you just need to decide on when you are going to allow the dummy and be consistent.

About to bite the bullet on this one. DS 3 1/2 and doesn't have a dummy during the day at Nursery but will try and sneak it all the time at home. He has it at night. It's affected his teeth and it's got to go but he will scream the house down if he can't find it. We're down to 1 and I've told him that you're not allowed to buy dummies for big boys. He told me he will give it to Santa ! I wish I took it off him ages ago and feel sorry for him as he's 'hooked ' on it. This is motivating me to tackle this once and for all

I don’t get the taboo? I think they’re amazing!
My little sister was weaned off her dummy when she was 3. My mum put some mustard on it and when she said “yuck it’s horrible” she said - “they go off when you’re a big girl”. No issues since!
