Can’t hold baby to feed

I (nor anybody else) can hold my baby to feed her. She will only be fed if laying flat or on a cushion/in baby chair after a battle.

It started around 2 months with her being fussy at feeding & has gradually gotten worse. She is now 5m & I still can’t hold her to feed her, she will squirm & scream very angrily completely refusing.

To get her to feed, I have to lay her down & let her suck the dummy for a while then quickly swap it for the bottle. After a couple of oz she will push it away, I burp her & we start the cycle again of dummy/bottle dependant on if she wants more. This can go on for quite some time. No body else can feed her unless I instruct them, which is quite ridiculous.

It’s awkward going out to groups/park/family because she will scream with hunger but won’t feed. People offer & try but she refuses. In the end I have to take her to a quiet area & feed her flat in the pushchair.

She usually wakes in the night at 1 or 3am & will cry most of the night until 5ish showing hunger cues but refuses to feed/is extremely fussy & overtired. This started around the same time. It’s exhausting for her & us.

Tried various bottles, teats & 3 brands of milk. HV & GP suggested silent reflux so she has had anti reflux milk, then gaviscon & now on ranitidine but no different. She has been referred to Paed but it’s over 6 weeks away & I’m exhausted & feel bad for her.

She had Tongue tie procedure & it has been re checked all fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? I’ve never heard of not being able to hold a baby to feed. She’s not my first baby. She’s happy to be held any other time by anyone. I’m worried about returning to work in 2 months as it’s not getting any better.

Why is it she doesn’t want to be held - is this symptom/clue of something?

Ta

Discuss with your HV, At least feed in a chair if you can . (Have you tried drinking lying down?)

HV useless. GP not bothered. She’s thriving so they aren’t concerned.

Yes June2007 I am well aware drinking lying down is not good. I’ve been back & forth to the HV & GP over 5 times re this. I don’t want it to be like this. I’ve spent hours googling & reading some similar stories but still no reason.

If she isn’t lying down she won’t feed. So it’s a choice between lay her down & feed her. Or don’t feed her & let her cry for hours & hours (which I have tried thinking she will ‘cave in’ nope)
