My DS language is quite developed now, he can put sentences together and is picking up/copying everything he hears. A couple of months ago I jokingly told DH to 'shut up' and DS copied. He didn't say it much then but now if you tell him off, he tells you to shut up or 'shurrup' as he says. It sounds so awful.
We're currently in a Catch 22 situation because if we tell him off for being cheeky because he's told his Dad to shurrup, he just says shurrup again - aaargh!!
The trouble is most of his peers are not saying as much as him and so I wonder whether he really knows the seriousness of the word and whether we should just ignore it or as I am doing saying we don't say that anymore we say be quiet.
He may be just thinking its a game now or a way of getting attention. I try explaining this to DH but he doesn't believe in the psychology stuff - he would rather give him a smack on the backside which I feel doesn't solve anything. Then we're getting into another territory of how you reconcile your different ways of dealing with certain situations with your child - and that's another problem altogether.
Any thoughts?
