New Pre-School Television programme- opinions needed!

Hi mumsnetters, I need your help with getting some research together! I'm raising funds to make a pilot for a brand new television programme aimed at what I believe to be a largely uncatered for pre-school child. I'd be so grateful, if you find this subject of interest, to hear your invaluable feedback on the following:-

  1. Does anybody else feel that there is a definite gap in programming for our children aged approx. 18months to 2.5 ish years old? i.e. After 'teletubbies' they're not quite ready for a more advanced 'tweeny' type show. What can they watch?

  2. If you could choose the content of a programme aimed at this age group, what would you like your children to see?

  3. Also, please let me know if you disagree with me and believe that all pre-school stages are catered for - and with what.

I look forward to your responses!

I have 3 little ones under 5 and they all love Balamory - keep watching for the video. Only prob is in the car when they decide to sing all they know is "What's the story Balamory wouldn't you like to know, what's the story Balamory wouldn't you like to GO" (go being shouted very loud) - quite sweet the first time but hard to take after 1 hr!

My ds twins loved The Snowchildren but it doesn't seem to be on anymore which is a shame.

Anything with singing and dancing and loads of music

something with really mundane activities in it - alittle like Topsy and Tim books - that show everyday activities - going to the park, nursery, supermarket.... Mine love that and perhaps alittle neighbourhood , my childern were really interested in Mr X from next door going outr in his car - where is he going etc etc etc

dd likes balmory, teletubbies, tweenies but most of all barney the dinosaur and his little friends.i think its because she likes anything she can sing and dance or do the actions to.the only things that don,t like much are puppets and some cartoons.

My ds (3.9) loves Dora the Explorer and Thomas the Tank Engine. He also loves Steve Irwin and wants to be him.

My ds is nearly 17 months, and doers enjoy watching TV ocassionally. He used to be interested in TTubbies, but for some reason is now not so interested. He will watch bear in the big blue house for about 10 minutes, and my Mum bought him a sing and dance Barney video which he loves, but I think it's the kids singing and all the actions he enjoys.

I have noticed he loves adverts with babies on (pampers/Johnsons etc) and will stop in his tracks to watch. Also he enjoys You've been framed - the bits with kids and animals.

My dd has gone off the teletubbies and tweenies.she now loves "Dora the explorer" Bob the builder has always been a big hit but i have to agree with twiglett, i dont think there's a gap in the market fro t.v. I DO however think there's a gap in the market for outside groups and activities. Everything seems to be mother and baby...then school age. Up North anyway and beleive me i've tried!!

Like some others my 2 don't watch any tele so can't say there is too much or not enough.... they watch the odd video but even that isn't not something my oldest wants to sit in front too long (he prefers to pretend play!) and DD at 2 is too young to find it interesting but as I read the thread I can see some much younger kids watching a fair amount. About 1 month ago they came out with some research that kids who have sky watch more tele than those who don't.... we don't but I found it true for our 2 friends who have sky.
