BF and Alcohol

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on the above. My baby is 4 mo and exclusivley breastfed. Just wondering when I do decide to leave her and have a few drinks, how do you go about expressing?
Can’t seem to get my head around how much I would need to express for the next day? Wouldn’t be having more than 3/4 drinks.
Thanks

No need to express for the next day. The amount of alcohol that crosses into breast milk is so minimal there's no worry there. As long as you're not too drunk to hold your baby - you're okay to BF.

You may want to pump while you're out, for your own comfort. But again, no need to pump and dump. That's outdated advice.

Enjoy a night out mama!

Googlingthrough - thank you, so even for a fair few drinks it won’t pass through to baby?
Don’t suppose you have any tips on getting a BF babe to take a bottle?! She doesn’t seem to like it!!

At my NCT class they said it's like the equivalent of a teaspoon or something in a swimming pool.

The bigger risk of having a fair few number of drinks is you holding her while you're tipsy/drunk. (And of course, remember that she won't care the next day if you're hungover and will be just as needy as ever!!)

No advice on the bottle though...mine was okay with a bottle (also EBF) until he was about 4.5mo and since then has refused to take one!

Both posters are right BUT, that advice is for having one or two drinks, not more than 3-4 as you've suggested you'll have.

They say to wait 2-3 hours from drinking to breastfeeding but this is based on 1 or 2 drinks.

It's not specified about how long to wait if you have more, it just says wait longer but if they're saying wait 2-3 hours for say 2 drinks, I would wait 2-3 for every 2 drinks you have. So if you have 8, wait 16-24 hours before breastfeeding.

If you're planning a big night out and having a lot, I would express enough for the next day and night and resume normal breastfeeding the morning after.

It says that having moderate amounts of alcohol (as in 1 or 2 drinks each day or at a time) will not cause any issues at all. But larger amounts can cause the baby to go into deep sleep, vomit, become extremely thirsty and be extremely irritable and restless. Excessive amounts can cause liver and kidney damage, sids and lack of brain maturity

Sorry just noticed that you said you wouldn't be having more than 3/4 drinks. I thought you said it would be more! You should be totally fine to breastfeed normally 4-6 hours after your last drink

AMAM8916 - Thank you thats helpful!! I’ve not had anything to drink at all so far so it would most likely be one or two drinks, if I dare :)
