my little girl is 15 and a half months old and still is yet to say her first word. she says sounds like da...ba... lots of gaga's. but that is about it. she is a reasonably happy child with quite a temper but i just worry about her development. When we are with other toddlers of the same age it confirms how behind she seems to be. I have tried to do as much as possible i talk to her lots try to read with her, but most of the time she isn't really interested. please help!!!!!!!!!!!

kEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING.iT sounds fine.
Reassess at 18 mths.If still no words ask HV to refere you to a salt (I am one)

Ours is the same, 18 months and has only four recognisable words and most of thos ein the last month, hiya, lease (please), ta (thank you) yes and no am not overly concerned at moment but it is worrying when you here other children talk.

nice to hear other people have gone through the same thing. Does you 18month old understand many things?

she is not behind. she is within the normal range

my 19mo only says a few attempts at words and he is a GENIUS

I think this is fine at 15 and a half months, certainly my LO was the same at that age. Don't worry!

seriously ask to be referred to a salt at 18mo with no words? I am slightly at this, having had an 18mo with no words who is now an unshut-up-able 4.10mo and currently having another 18mo with no words.

DS2 is 14m and no words. I am not remotely bothered by this. DS1 had a few words but was still 'behind' (not my choice of words) a lot of other babies the same age. But he was an early walker and I will always be grateful to have it that way round as he saved me the trauma of a double buggy..! If you look at other things that they do, you will find that your daughter is 'ahead' of other children in other things.

My HV advises that their understanding is much more important then saying words at 15 months.

If she can understand what you say I wouln't worry too much

Sorry klover went to bed didn't mean to ignire you. Yes she does understand instructions, bath time she is out the kitchen and heading towards the stairs like a shot, breakfast time she is out of play room and into the kitchen etc. SHe is willful though and aslo burbles away alot so I think it is just a metter of time.
