9.5 mth old with MOLARS AND INCISORS coming through - please reassure me this will end soon

For the last three weeks she's been whiney, for the last three nights she's been waking hourly and screaming and wanting to nurse all the time.

Took her to the GPs, who said: yep, they are definitely coming through, the molars right at the back all the way to the front.

She's not even 10 months old!

Can someone please reassure me that they will break soon and I will have my darling daughter back rather than this pitiful whiney creature? I can't stand seeing her in such pain and she's also bitten me quite badly (and drawn blood) very often this week.

Calpol doesn't seem to touch it and I'm at my wits end!

And if one more person says: 'Best to get it over and done with' I will scream, and that will wake her up (now you wouldn't want that would you?)

I do feel for you - DS was off his food for 3 days when his molars were coming through and he was a total whinge bag! You could try a damp cloth placed in the freezer for about 30mins and let her chew on that - really cools the gums down and helps the teeth break through....and they will..don't fret...

Are you totally opposed to medised for just one night to put a bit of a break on the cycle and give her (and you!) a good nights sleep? Its exhausting for a baby to be up on the hour with pain....

I always found nurofen to work better than calpol

purplemonkeydishwasher · 02/08/2007 09:51

another vote for nurofen. calpol is useless on my ds

DS had this - it's hideous isn't it. Homeopathy worked for us. Chammomilla (we went for 30c from Boots rather than Teetha granules which is 6c - tip a pill into her mouth - or bung a couple into her cup/bottle with some water - you can't overdose btw) HTH

HURRAH - Blood on the toothbrush tonight and lo and behold we have FOUR incisors and two molars! Obviously the rest of are hanging out waiting for their shot but she's so much better today!

Have tried the frozen cloth thing but she prefers to bite me

Will try switching to Calprofen though - she does seem to loathe calpol at the minute (don't blame her, it's horrid).

Oh no, this thread is upsetting me. Ds is just 7 months and having a really bad time with the last two of his front teeth....was hoping for a good long break before the incisors and molars.

The thought that they could come out in the next 3 months is NOT one I wanted to contemplate....

Have you tried cranial osteopathy? Found it very good for when dd had teeth coming in from every direction and turned into a whiny sleepless mess..

whomovedmychocolate · 02/08/2007 21:52

ib - don't worry, it is EXCEPTIONALLY RARE for them all to come together.

Taliac - really? I wouldn't have thought of that - but it does make a lot of sense. She actually has a cranial osteopath already (she's only been twice but it did seem to help). Maybe I'll give him a call tomorrow! Thanks
