Bum shuffling to walking

Hi mums

First time mum here ...please be gentle.

My gorgeous DD is nearly 12 months. Since around 11 months she has been getting into a crawling position but just doesn't quite get that second knee back...

She's recently been bum shuffling. Yesterday my MIL was around and DD made it across the kitchen floor whilst we were talking...

MIL immediately said "oh dear a bum shuffler...she'll struggle with development later in I've heard that bum shuffling as a baby leads to all sorts of problems"

I was upset to say the least. When I challenge her she said she saw research and that she'll be a late walker and may have trouble reading!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone else had a bum shuffler who was all ok.

My oldest niece was a bum shuffler and then didn't walk til 15MO. Bright girl doing well at school. No problems at all physically, in fact was singled out in gymnastics for being really good on the bars (quit quite early though) her younger sister walked at 10MO. The clutsiest thing ever God love her. Clumsy AF and didn't ride a pedal bike until age 9. Also bright and lovely girl though with nevertheless no major issues. You can't really stop them mobilising how they want to so just know that it probably doesn't matter as much as you think and let it be xx

Thanks @Jannt86 I agree with you in that I wouldn’t be asking for it was just that but he also has a severe speech delay ie no words at all yet and a speech delay in addition to delayed fine motor skills I have been told can signal Dyspraxia aka Apraxia of speech so I’m wondering if we could be looking at apraxia or potentially 2 separate issues . Thank you though 🙏

My mam would tell you i was a bum shuffler, I was late walking. Think almost 2 but I do have flat feet, that was the cause. I've no other development problems, was top in some classes, average in others. I've known friends babies shuffle rather than crawl, no issues at all, they either preferred it or thought it was faster to get around that way. My son never really crawled, he could and would do so rarely, he would 'commando crawl' on belly. HV mentioned development, I explained he's not daft, he realised he could move faster that way so decided not to crawl. His first steps almost 10 months, he was running within a week. Dont worry 😁
