Advice please. 7 year old toileting issues

My DS 7 has had problems with constipation from about the age of 3. He is currently on Laxido and has a maintenance dose of 2 sachets a day.

He has had a lot of problems with soiling but that we'd seemed to get on top of but has really become a problem again and I'm not sure how we can deal with it.

Currently we have to prompt him with the toilet, he will not go to toilet for a poo indepedently. At the moment I ask him to sit each morning after breakfast and when he comes home from school, or at the weekend again after dinner and tea.

The problem is he is currently having a lot of accidents and I'm not sure what else to do.

For a bit of background DS has no other physical health problems. He is in mainstream school and is on the SEN register and waiting for an assessment for possible ASD.

Has anyone else experienced similar and how did you deal with it?

Sorry for the long post

Sorry, I don’t have any great advice, but just came on to suggest you contact ERIC, the kids’ continence charity. Their website is full of great advice and they have a helpline too.

My three year old is having some soiling after an episode of constipation and if doesn’t settle down soon I’m going to ring ERIC to ask what I should be badgering my Gp for.

I really feel for you, it’s stressful and annoying.

Thank you for the reply. It is frustrating isn't it. I've looked at the website before and tried to email in the past but not had a response but I will try to phone them as definitely need some advice.

I hope you get sorted with your little one soon. I think dealing with it early is key. I waited too long I think to take DS to the gp in the beginning as it was on and off.

Has he been checked for enoporesis?

Sorry for the late reply. I thought that encopresis was just secondary to the constipation. Is there something else I should be asking the GP to look at?
