Daft question: how much exercise do babies need?

I know this is a really really stupid question, esp. as I am onto my 2nd child, but how much rolling on the floor stuff do they need? DS2 is 3 months & already rolling so I don't like to strap him in the buggy all the time. Unfortunately I often need to go out when he's not asleep (as when he is I grab 40 winks myself) but worry that he's then not getting enough exercise. I know they're constantly growing & everything so maybe they only need a few 10-minute bouts on the floor? Please enlighten this very stupid person...

I had never really thought about it, as long as he isn't permanently in his pram I don't think you should be too concerned. I am sure a few ten minute bouts would be fine. When my dd was first moving about i used to let her have about twenty mins on the floor starkers every evening after bath time.

But have just had a scary thought exercise videos for babies,an untapped market. Who would be the first to release one, my money is on Big Brother's jade!

If I was at home and they were awake then I'd let them lie/roll on the floor etc. If I needed to go out I would just put them in their pram/pushchair. Other than that I hadn't really thought that much about it.

Already been done, nikkim - you can get yoga for babies videos!

scampadoodle: don't know if your ds2 is like mine, but mine kicks a fair bit in his pushchair, too! I don't think his exercise is being reduced that much by being in the pushchair - and think of the workout his brain is getting by looking at all the new things on your trip out!

I leave my 15 week DD on the floor. Never really thought about it too much but figured the floor is the safest place. I lie her under her play gym most mornings for 30 mins and throughout the day.Other parts of the day shes in the pram or bouncy chair.

I knew it was a stupid question! Inbetween naps, I just transfer him between bouncy chair, mat & buggy, depending on which room I need to be in. He sleeps pretty well at night so I must be getting it about right... I am obviously just creating a whole new neurosis for myself!
