Introvert child

My DD (5y 10m) has always been an introvert. I have posted about this on here previously.

But I didn't realise quite how bad it was until she's started coming home with injuries from school (scraped knees with blood soaked tights, an bump on the head from falling over etc) I asked her why I didn't get a note about the huge bruise she had on her head and she said she isn't telling anyone about these accidents if they happen when she's alone!

I have always told her no matter how much you don't feel like talking to somebody you must always tell a teacher if you get hurt, feel poorly, need the toilet or someone has hurt you.

It absolutely breaks my heart to think that she'd rather walk around in pain all day than face telling someone she's fallen over. I have no idea how to approach this or what to say to her.

You need to speak to her teacher. Is it a large school? The teacher needs to set a buddy system in place...and to speak to the helpers at playtime...so they know to keep an eye out.

Oh and try to facilitate some playdates at home. If she's not sure who to invite...ask the teacher. She or he will know of a nice child who could also do with some out of school social time.

Playdates help them to form bonds which serve them well during school hours.

HennyPennyHorror thanks for your response. She does have a group of little friends but when I ask her why she was playing alone she says she wants to be alone sometimes.

We have a playdate after school every Friday usually.

Ok...that's good. I think I'd definitely tell the teacher of your concerns and also start practising with DD a bit. Let her pay in the shops...and try to encourage little interactions with safe adults. It's a case of building her confidence.
