When did your LO roll ?

Basically says in the title. My LO is 21 weeks and shows no interest in rolling, we've always had loads of tummy time and time on her jungle gym. She sits unaided and can hold and reach out for toys perfectly fine but still doesn't roll. She lifts her legs up but doesnt even go onto her side

My little one was 5 months last week and rolled last week. He rolled front to back a while ago but showed no interest in back to front. Not even onto his side. Out of nowhere he started turning onto his side for two days then again...out of nowhere he rolled front to back a few days later and now it's all he does. I too was worried be wasn't showing any signs of doing it but it just suddenly changed overnight!

My LO is nearly 7 months. He rolled front to back fairly early at almost exactly 3 months, however he doesn’t do it very often even now. He still can’t go back to front, gets on his side and is tipped quite far over but never manages to make the last flip.

My DS didn’t roll until he was nearly 6 months. He was a little late with most of his “physical” milestones - he crawled for the first time on his 1st birthday and walked at 15 months. I was really worried at the time but he’s 2.5 now and absolutely fine - running/jumping/climbing on everything!!!!

Fwiw he was (and still is) very advanced with his problem solving and language etc and several people have told me since that being a bit slower physically often happens when they are early with talking etc as their brains can’t cope with developing everything at once. Anecdotally this fits with what I’ve seen with my nct friends babies. Those that rolled/crawled/walked early weren’t talking as early as my DS and even now their communication is nowhere near as good.

My oldest who is nearly 3 years old, and is absolutely fine, never really rolled despite tummy time and hours of persuasion. She just seemed to skip that stage (obv she can roll now). She walked at 13 months and although not agile as some toddlers she is perfectly normal I think.

I remember worrying that my LO wasn’t rolling, and she never did really but was walking at 10 months! Try not to worry all children are different.

Both my DSs did back to front roll around 5 months. DS2 at 6.5 months now rarely stays on his back, but DS1 wasn't that bothered, he hated tummy time though, probably because he was refluxy. The only difference I noticed amongst my NCT class was that the tummy time lovers crawled earlier than those that were not fans. Some of the babies didn't roll til 6-7 months. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference now!

My DD never rolled. I was so worried but she just didn't want to! She sat at 6 months, crawled at 9 months and walked at 11 months. Soon after walking she realised she could roll over! They all get there in their own way.

My LO is 6 and half months hates tummy time and cant roll not sitting up unaided yet am trying to help him put his hands on the ground as he much prefers having them in his mouth Smile

Mine didn’t roll until he was 8.5 months. He’s always been a bit behind with gross motor skills but is catching up very well now. The doctor wasn’t concerned so try not to worry yourself.

mrssoap · 20/04/2019 08:46

My baby started to roll at 3 months. However my older 3 kids didn't do this till about 5 months, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Shelley54 · 20/04/2019 09:56

Agree not to worry. DS2 rolled at 3m old. His friend still doesn’t at 11m. Both are standing and cruising.

My grand daughter was 8 months and my grandson was 5 months. They will do it when they want to.
