Any SALTs about? I think my son has an atypical disfluency

My son is nearly four and has had very clear speech and a wide vocabulary from an early age. Recently we’ve noticed that he is repeating the last sound of certain types of word (kick ck ck ck, cat t t t) and doesn’t seem to be aware he is doing it. I’ve had a google (bad idea I know!) and it seems like an atypical disfluency, word final disfluency, and possibly related to ADHD, autism or Tourette’s. He does exhibit some other signs that he may be ASD in a very minor way (struggles with group activities, poor concentration/fixation). Is it worth requesting a SALT referral at this age or worth waiting until he starts school in September to see what the school think?

did you ever get a clear diagnosis of why he was doing that? I ask bc my son is 7, in first grade and the school hasn’t said anything about it but I notice it. I googled also (mistake), and end up with the same research as you. I was just curious your outcome.

Hi marissa2176. I have also got a 4 year old and only suddenly started doing a stutter at the end of the words/sentance. I don't have any other concerns with her as far as being autistic however I know if you read up on it they say it's linked. (Wish I never looked) her speech and social skills have always been really good. Nursery havnt noticed anything. What steps are you going to take? Thanks
