I'm on baby number 3 (6 months old) and I noticed that he was developing slowly compared to his older siblings, so I popped a just-to-reassure-myself call to the HV.

She ran through the Ages and Stages for his age over the phone and it came out that he is fine in all areas except gross motor, which was low enough that she's put a referral in to a paed.

Specifically, he can sit unaided and bear his weight on his feet, but when on his tummy he can't push his chest up and only rarely can roll (although he tries). When on his back, he can't lift his legs and isn't rolling, not even into his side. Plus, he couldn't reach his arms up to his baby gym toys until way past 4 months. Again he tried, just didn't have the strength.

We're already dealing with multiple allergies through my breast milk so life hasn't been easy for him. Now this. Anyone has similar?

I have no research to ask this up but I've noticed from seeing friends and children at baby groups tgat allergy and reflux babies tend to be a bit slower with motor skills. I think because lying, rolling is so uncomfortable for them and this is how they develop core strength. If he's sitting that's great. My prediction would be he'll be a bum shuffler rather than crawler as again crawling tilts them into the uncomfortable position again. The babies I've known like this have been a bit slower to walk but once walking with confidence there's little difference between them and other children.

My daughter is 22 weeks on Saturday. She doesn't roll not even onto her side and when she is on her front she doesn't push off her arms, well I think I've seen her do it twice. She sits unaided, stands holding one hand but does lift her legs up when on her back. I'm not too concerned as not all babies develop the same, some babies do skip the rolling stage

DD didn't roll until 9 months. She was sitting well before then and hated doing anything on her tummy. She went from rolling to crawling within 6 weeks then walking by 12 months.

i everyone am new to this and not sure if im even posting in the correct forum. My wee man is 6 months and 2 weeks old and im a worried 1st time mummy. He doesnt show alot of interest in grabbing toys or holding them - prefers to keep his hand in his mouth which is probably amusing him as his first 2 teeth are up. He never liked tummy time and would cry to lie on his back. He doesnt roll round and cant seem to position his hands on the ground to turn himself round or steady himself. He does some high pitched squealing short term in excitement but i wouldnt say babbling. Is this all normal or is he way behind? Is there certain toys/books/excercises i could try to help him with all of this.... any words of wisdom would be great xxx
