they are great - they love lolloping around on them when they are on tummy and rolling and they come with lots of really good transportanble toys -an always handy to plonk them on when you need to put them down and don't want to put directly on the floor. Really important I would say...

Cargirl - with apologies for hijack - you will never guess what I found this morning tucked away in a backpack carrier!!! The chest pad for the P&T. Did you get hold of one or do you still need it?

I don't know about development, but they are a lot of fun! Another vote for tiny love here, chimes are great, and now she can sit and roll she still loves it (6 months).

I was given an Ikea one (Gym Kenya, I think it's called) which doesn't have a mat just a rigid plastic frame with things dangling and some rattles/spinners on the side. We used it much more than the trad padded and curved one we also were given. When DS was very small it went over the bouncy chair and he could reach the dangly things before he could reach lying flat on the floor. Then for a long time he used it like a normal gym. Then when he started standing he used it to balance himself. Then when he started walking he used it like a zimmer frame! We've only just put it away now he's 11 months. And even then we kept the rattle/spinner side pieces for him to play with on their own. I expect it was pretty cheap too, being from Ikea.

Neitehr of my DDs liked theirs. So I'd buy second hand if I were you.

We had a cheap plastic one, I think from toysrus for all 3 children. They all used it a lot until they could sit. It was really good - had things on the sides too for when they start to roll, and also the ends came off so could store it away or take it in the car for using at other people's houses. We also borrowed a fancy one from a friend with a mat and soft animals hanging etc and it was rubbish - they couldn't reach anything or even really see anything as the toys were so spread out.
