Speech therapy - have people found it useful?

My DS will be 3 next month and has been referred to speech therapy, he now says a large amount of words but just doesn't put them together into a sentence. He'll put 2 words together e.g "all gone" , "daddy work" etc. He has such a good understanding of what we ask him to do so no concerns of him not understanding us. We read every day to him and every day he is saying a new word.

The whole point of this post anyway is to ask if people have though speech therapy helped their children? And what is it they actually do at these sessions?

We've found it very useful. Both DC spoke more and more clearly after the sessions.

What they actually do is a lot of play. Well my DC enjoyed it anyway Smile

My son started speech therapy at 2.11 and is still having weekly sessions at 4.2.

He loves it and he’s gone from being totally incomprehensible to a wild chatty 4 year old.

For clarity as what is fine in sessions - initially they will access your son and then play games to encourage him to say more. It’s all play led so they think they are just playing (for example using pop up pirate and taking it in turns to say things.

My son had a severe speech disorder which he will always have but he is now able to converse with his peers and to meet him you would never know.

Sorry for the typos!

@FishInCarparks thanks very much for the reply, glad to hear it has worked. Pleased it's just play and nothing stressy for them!
