i would still smack on bum on occasions very rare but i feel that i have lost control of situation when i smack. being sent to your room much more of a punishment.

mylastrolo · 05/07/2007 15:16

prepares herself for backlash of child scarred for life

speedymama · 05/07/2007 15:17

People who work in childcare services could tell you stories, would would turn your stomachs, about what goes on behind closed doors in some middle class households.

mylastrolo · 05/07/2007 15:23

speedymamma i think there are horror stories in every class and walk of life. It is just luck of the draw unfortunately a lottery hopefully born into a loving enviroment. then like anything only when you are older and have kids of your own you realise how lucky you have been.

I know Mya, just pointing out it out.

I sat through an awareness lecture once which was appraising us of the work that goes on in child abuse and the lecturer stressed the fact that contrary to popular opinion, it is not just the working class areas where social services are active.

meandmyflyingmachine · 05/07/2007 15:30

"wanna smack?"

vs

"don't do that darling, it makes Mummy sad"

Tough one...

Peachy · 05/07/2007 18:17

Fio! odnt know whether or pmsl

used to workk in childcare services (homestart) myself so fully aware of the need beinga cross the board, and what can go on behind closed door. I do believe stress is a factor for pushing pele over the edge, and its that people shoudl be evaluating, not income and housing area. And mosta buse I've come across isn;t the sustained sort we see in the papers, its lost-it-becuase-it-all-got-too-much types where intervention in terms of support would ahve worked a treat
