Babywalkers - I know we're not supposed to use them but at what age can you use them?

I know that these days were not supposed to use babywalkers because apparently they are dangerous etc. But I was thinking of getting dd1's out of the loft for dd2 and wasn't sure at what age you can use them from?

I will not be leaving her in it unattended.

Well I mentioned it to my HV and she said that they are not generally recommended these days but with proper supervision and as long as she is not in it for long periods at a time then she was no harm. i have tried her in it a few times and she seems to like it. Our house is pretty child safe anyway as we already have 3yo dd. She is almost sitting up by herself and is completely comfortable in the walker. I always thought that they were supposed to be on their tip toes in them - now I know to make it lower so that her feet are flat on the floor.

Thanks everyone for your advice/experiences.

All of my four children used a baby walker as soon as there feet could reach the ground. It was an old fashioned one that was simlar to a fishing stool without the seat and two holes for the legs. Never did they have any trouble or accidents with it. It could 'turn on a sixpence' was just a little wider than the child who had full movement in it.The ones these days are big and clumsy and take up far too much room. I have hunted for one like i had before for my 10 week old granson but to no avail mores the pity.

I didn't know they are seen as unsafe until I came on here, but my 8 month old DD absolutely adores hers! We put her in it in the kitchen and she happily scoots around while we prepare dinner. On the odd occasion we don't, she pulls up to stand on table legs, cupboard doors, our legs - anything really and as the floor is tiled, it terrifies me. I'm much much happier when she's in her walker.

My DD can't move in hers but it's a godsend for me as she is at the nearly crawling stage and I can't leave her for one second. The baby walker means I can go for a wee (with the door open!). I got it as it as I couldn't afford a jumperoo which everyone else seems to have.
