Probably between 13 and 14 hours. DS2 always slept less than DS1. Still does.

fairygirl3 · 02/07/2007 19:59

its prob just a phase hes going through,is he walking yet?my ds2 slept very little (2x15min naps)from 6>15 months, then had about a week of not sleeping at all when he started walikng & after that he then started having a 1-2 hour nap every day & still goes to sleep by 7pm,i was really worried at first but was told it was where he was much more active & is quite common(he is my 3rd & none of others did this). If u r putting him to sleep in his cot maybe he is confused &thinks is bedtime, ive always put mine to sleep somewhere different eg playpen ,buggy then they know its just a quick nap &then more fun,my ds buggy lays back so ijust put him in there with cuddly toy & blanket & leave him to talk to himself till he drops off.

My DD (2.3) sleeps for 2 hrs during the afternoon She dropped her morning nap shortly after her first birthday. Both my babies stand up in their gro bags (including the 11 mth old). They soon flop back down and go to sleep when they realise mummy's not giving in

BonyM · 02/07/2007 20:17

Both dds were about 18mths, but dd2 who is now 2.3 has just started wanting one again. Work that one out .

chipkid · 02/07/2007 20:21

my nearly 3 has an hour at lunchtime. She manages fine without for a few days but after that she is as grumpy as you like.

She would sleep for two hours plus if I let her but I had to cut her back as she was not ready for sleep at her bedtime.

nappyaddict · 02/07/2007 20:42

he started crawling last week and then started sleeping ridiculous amounts like 17-18 hours in a day!! now he's gone the other way and is having about 8 hours!

dd is 3 1/2 and still has a 2 hour nap 2 or 3 times a week.

and sleep 7 - 7.30pm to 7am.

Daughter stopped napping when she was 20 months, absolutely nothing we could do to get her to sleep.

Son stopped napping when he was 2.5 years old.

We either read with them (obviously not what you are looking for here), maybe you could just give your child their favourite book and he/she can quietly look through it him/herself,
we try and get them to watch some tv (they are not the biggest fan of tv),
sit and talk with them,
get them to play with pearls, or
look at family albums.

Hope this helps.

my son stopped napping at a yr also he just set his own routine just look out fo signs of fighting to stay awake but he may be ready to drop naps my son was only sleeps if in car or sometimes pushchair although not often he is ok he is 2.3 now

doggiesayswoof · 09/08/2007 14:47

Dd just turned 3 and still naps most days. By the looks of this thread I have been abnormally lucky

I used to leave dd standing up in her cot and she would fall asleep on her own eventually. (Wouldn't leave her crying for more than 5 mins though.)

nappyaddict · 09/08/2007 14:50

bubblagirl how many months was your lo?

bubblagirl · 09/08/2007 15:04

he was either just before 12 mths or 12mths he just didn't want to nap but always went to bed early 5-6 pm although still doesnt nap will go down from between 5.30-7.30pm

hotcrossbunny · 09/08/2007 15:16

Doggiesayswoof - my dd still naps most days at 4!!! Its great. Until she doesn't sleep at night I'm really happy to keep it going. Sometimes she misses it if we're out but is on her knees by 4.00. If she doesn't have a nap she doesn't sleep well at night
I had a baby who didn't sleep tho' and I kept asking friends what they did to get them to sleep...Think this is pay back time I worked and worked at it and now look...I guess I forced it a bit when she was 12-18months tbh so I would say its worth persevering.
Dd has books in bed with her, sometimes listened to a story tape etc...

maisemor · 09/08/2007 15:35

My sister still gets her son who is 6.5 to take naps in the weekends.

Mine are just far too sociable (and I love spending time with them, most of the time ).

Baffy · 09/08/2007 15:38

It doesn't sound to me like he's getting enough sleep if he's only having 8 hours at night and no naps

Could you walk him in the pram or take him for a drive in the car to encourage him to go off
