Is it too soon to put him in Bugaboo stroller?

DS is 18 weeks, pretty big (16lbish) and very, very wriggly! He is currently in Bugaboo pram with carrycot but really seems to be outgrowing it - if he's awake then he wriggles like mad, tries to roll over, and gets his feet over the side!

I think he might prefer being in the stroller attachment so he can look out, but the instructions say it's only for babies over 6 months. He can hold his head up fine but can't sit up unsupported. I don't want to damage his spine if he's not going to get enough support in it, but does he really still need to be flat on his back? Opinions welcomed...

Thanks everyone for your answers (have been offline a couple of days due to computer probs so only just caught up with all the answers).

We assembled the stroller bit of the Gecko yesterday and tried DS in it, actually his head was totally fine (and he seemed to like it) BUT I didn't realise that there was no solid back support (just fabric) and so it didn't look like his spine was getting much support. So we have decided to hold off for a few more weeks and maybe put him in it at 5 months or so. In the meantime we have to wait for breaks in the rain to take him out in the baby carrier!

We just bought a Maclaren for ds from 3 mths. In the shop I Noticed it said only suitable from 6 months (in French). I asked the shop assistant and he said that the safety standards are stricter on the continent.

I guess it is the same for the bugaboo.

I just checked my frog instructions and is says if you want to use the seat unit for dc under 6 months it must only be in the semi-recline or reclinging position and then for no more than 2 hours at a time - of course this applies whether you use it as a pushchair or a freestanding unit. HTH

I moved mine into seat at 5 1/2 months, but desparate to see out from about 3 & v unhappy lying down so I used to prop up with blankets. seemed at good compromise as could then ensure lying flat still when asleep.
