4 yr old wont keep his pants on at home

This one is driving me mad

DS (nearly 4) will not keep his trousers or undies on in the house. He comes into the room where I am after doing his activities with his bum exposed and his willy flying.

I spend ages chasing him round with undies and bottoms

Please assure me it's just a phase

My DD (also 4) would be naked all day long if she had her way. DD2 6 has grown out of it.

HuwEdwards · 28/06/2007 15:24

oops DD1 is 6

laundrylover · 28/06/2007 15:25

My 3 year old DD1 is the same! It has been a phase for some time though she is better than she once was and puts knickers on if we have vistors or her friends are round to play. She is keen on going out on the drive totally naked if anyone comes to the door too.

It doesn't help that DD2 is bare bottomed whilst at home in an early potty training stage! DD2 now wants to wee in the potty too rather than the toilet...kids, who'd have 'em?

moopymoo · 28/06/2007 15:30

a phase i think. i am forever finding little piles of abandoned trousers and undies. it doesnt really bother me if its warm weather. drives my mil mad though she thinks its unhygenic. that it irritates her means i find it very easy to tolerate.

grouchyoscar · 29/06/2007 14:07

Hmmmn...it's 2pm and DS still has his kecks on!

tis normal, Ds goes upstairs to play in his room..comes downstairs naked and giggling..thinks its fab.

kslatts · 29/06/2007 14:16

My dd1 (7) never went through this phase, but dd2 (5) loves being naked, she often takes her clothes off.

happyinbluejeans · 29/06/2007 14:17

I dont mind if its just at home, I tell him a birdy is going to come and peck his willy off thinking its a worm. At which he runs inside and gets pants on.

Oblomov · 29/06/2007 14:19

Ds 3.5 is like this. LOL at happyinjeans - pecking it off - are you sure thats a good image ? peck, peck, peck

happyinbluejeans · 29/06/2007 14:21

probably not, giving him a lifetime phobia of birds but it works

grouchyoscar · 29/06/2007 15:54

10 to 4 and.....he went for a wee and the pants are off

Just tried the 'birdy will peck the worm off' gambit and was told

'The windows aren't open'

tried 'it might fly down the chimney'

'I'll build a guard for the worm'

Heaven help me!

Ha ha - you are WELL outsmarted

happyinbluejeans · 29/06/2007 17:55

you have to accompany the birdey thing with a pecking motion with your fingers to get the message across and pinch bottoms, sound a bit sick now dont i

RosemaryWoodhouse · 30/06/2007 02:50

These children are the flashers of the future. The police should take their DNA now!

katelyle · 30/06/2007 05:37

Why is this a problem? He's 4!

KittenKat · 30/06/2007 06:18

Its a phase. best friend's LO used to always running around without his pants on!

Although he is getting better. She used to chase him, then gave up and just used to ask him, and if he did not, she would ignore it until time to eat/go out etc, and he got bored/stopped enjoying it so much eventually.

Still does it though, from time time. Aged 4.5

I was hoping the birds pecking the willies was a joke too but I don't think it was. I'm sure the DNA thing was though!

grouchyoscar · 30/06/2007 15:36

The Bird/pecking/willy thing has failed totally as he's now employed the Red Hot Chilli Pepper sock guard method.

Mind you I've heard that lots of los like to streak so I'm just laughing about it now

auburnmum · 30/06/2007 22:20

Maybe it's because you chase him that he does it? Sounds like fun!

TheLadyEvenstar · 01/07/2007 10:22

I had same with my ds until he was 5 or 6, didn't bother me. I personally hate being clothed when I am indoors and often walk around in my undies. But then I have no problem with nudity. Ds now almost 9 and will come n sit in bathroom while i have a bath, he doesn't bat an eyelid nor do I. I think it is natural, lets face it we weren't born with clothes on lol. He will grow out of it eventually. Unless he is like me and just hates clothes lmao

BarefootShirl · 01/07/2007 11:52

DS(6) went through this phase but has been staying dressed more over the last few months - probably since starting school. DD(8) has been naked at home and in the garden since she started to crawl ands shows no sign of "growing out of it" - as soon as she gets home the clothes come off! However, I can't really say much as she is just following my example - I'm with LadyEvenstar on this one - and I rarely wear anything indoors unless we have visitors so its no great surprise that she is doing likewise.

TheLadyEvenstar · 01/07/2007 11:56

Shirl, yippeee someone who is same as me lol. I just feel that by covering our bodies all the time we open up the "taboo" way of life. Mind you at the moment DS loves to see my belly naked as I am 24+5 pg and he loves to watch his little brother jumping lol.

FlamingTomatoes · 01/07/2007 12:02

My four year old informed me that the birds don't come into our garden because they are too firghtened of our cat, so it's ok for him to wander around with his winky flapping.

I insist on pants though, he's not great at bum wiping.
