How can I stop my toddler having a meltdown at the hairdressers??

Evening all!

My son is 16 months old - my friend is a hairdresser so has cut it before, as he's got older it's near on impossible. He screams his head off and bats her hands away. I've tried putting him in high chair and putting Peppa pig on, giving him snacks, toys, milk NOTHING works. My friend had to give up. I think I'm going to try and take him to the barbers tomorrow (his hair is a mess and needs doing) they have a car for him to sit in so hoping that may help. ANY tips for me would be greatly appreciated! Or at least let me know I'm not alone! Grin. I actually feel nervous about taking him! Xx

Sit him on your lap instead of in separate seat. Hold his head gently against your chest while they are cutting. Favourite tv show on phone. Go early in the morning so it’s not busy.

Good luck!

Sorry no help but I'd love to know too as mine is the same and he'll be completely unable to see soon with all the hair hanging over his eyes! So you're not alone if that helps...

I know it sounds a weird question, but does he wear the cape? My DS went through a phase like this. Even though he went to Shortcuts which is especially for kids. We went again last week and he was fab, just sat there playing with the car they sit him in. The only 2 differences I could notice was 1) he didn't have the cape on which I know he wasn't keen on and 2) there wasn't any other children there having a meltdown as there has been in the past which I think can set him off.

It's a small thing but you never know! It can make them feel quite restricted.

Agree on cape comment. They like their hands accessible.
