Have been potty training dd who is 3 in sept for the poast 2 weeks. She is great at weeing in potty or toilet but I cannot get her to go on them for a poo. It has been 2 weeks now I thought she would get the hang of it. So many knickers to wash. Any advice? I have tried sitting her on potty when I think she needs it but she gets upset and it makes it all worse.

This is a very common problem; they don't like the feeling when it falls away - it gives the sensation that they will fall too, apparently. With ds I got him to use the potty for poo by laying a nappy across it and getting him to sit on the nappy on the potty. When you have succeeded with this, lower it slightly each time until you can take it away completely.

Funny you should post today as I am in the process of ordering this

Lots of books on Amazon for kids
called things like
"Everybody poops" (charming ) etc. Maybe it is worth getting a few of these "stories" to make the experience more normal?

Everybody Poos

Thanks for that. This pooing business is driving me up the wall. Have just tried putting a potty liner in so see if that makes her happier and she's sat straight on it so keep your fingers crossed.

She'll get the hang of it soon. Can you give her a little treat if she does manage it. Buy very cheap knicker, scrape em and chuck em.

Have tried all sorts of treats. She loves it when she's done a wee, get all excited but when she has an accident and I tell her when she needs a poo to tell me and I'll help get her to potty or toilet she just says yeah.

Hi, I posted about this earlier in the week. We have had to buy loads of new pants and can't get my son to do it on the loo unless you spot him and drag him over to the loo as its happening. I'm trying sweets now if he sits on the loo to try and poo and if he does it give him an ice cream which works.

Don't worry! It's only been 2 weeks. Our son has been potty training since last year and very quickly got the wees but the poos have been very tricky. He would on the potty then told us 'potty's are for babies' then he just about got the idea that he could on the toilet and then he moved into a different class in nursery where they let the 3 year olds go to the toilet on their own (!!??) he immediately stopped all pooing and then saved it up for his night time nappy.
At the moment he still does this though since i had a word with nursery and requested that they take him to the toilet he's done it a few times.
I have to say he's just not that bothered....

oh, and we tried sticker charts, sweets, new toys and each one failed!
He is very much the type where he just says' i just won't have the sticker then'.
I've just tried to be a little calmer after trying the soflty, softly moving onto pushing moving onto nearly throttling him when he came into our bedroom one sunday morning and asking 'could you change me please i've pooed my nappy' to which he then promptly burst out laughing whereas I went balistic.
I keep getting told he'll do it i his own time....
