Primary school aggression

At what age would you consider a child to grow out of scratching as a way of lashing out - I understand toddlers or nursery age, but when does it become worrying in older children?
I find scratching to be a highly aggressive action and something that can not be physically done unintentionally! It's the ugliest form of lashing out, as there is nothing but motion and intention behind of it!
Am I right in being worried a child of 8/9 age is lashing out in such an aggressive manner?
Any help and feedback would be very much appreciated

Personally I wouldn’t be happy if my toddler was doing it and I’d be actively trying to deal with it.

Yes I'd be extremely concerened at 8/9. Does the child have SEN? how is the childs speech/communication/understanding?

Unfortunately this is something happening at school - my 9yo has been scratched down the face by a 8yo - I am made to believe they were playing and when it turned to laughter, the incident happened and I find it highly worrying!

Have the school said what they are doing to ensure this doesn’t happen again? I’d take sone photos of your DD’s face, just in case it does happen again and you want to take it further.
