6mo is a wriggly ball of energy

To be fair my baby has always been a right fidget. He’s 6 months now and he is such a squirmy wriggly baby so full of energy, he doesn’t want to stop moving all day long and is desperate to be on the move. It’s really quite exhausting! So I guess I want to know, has anyone else been in this boat, and does it calm down when they’re crawling?!

And when does the clawing at my face and pulling my hair fun stop..?!

No crawling doesn’t make them calm down, they just make more mess and get into ridiculous places. Sort you if that’s no tv what you want to hear OP Smile

Have you’ve got a door bouncer or jumperoo? Have you tried taking him swimming to burn off a bit of energy?

BlueMoon33 · 05/11/2018 19:13

Yes going swimming on Friday for the first time. Its definitely easier if we’re out all day busy and stimulated, but that’s exhausting to maintain as well!

Ah well, thanks anyway JiltedJohnsJulie.. He’s definitely not boring that’s for sure...!

Got a door bouncer coming this week which I’m excited about.
The jumperoo he just wants to whack whatever is in front of him really hard, which in turn hurts his hands!!

Only use jumperoo and/bouncer if your baby has healthy hips!

BlueMoon33 · 06/11/2018 18:36

Yes, he’s really strong on his legs and not far off crawling, and to be honest he’ll only cope with about 5 minutes on any activity so he wouldn’t be in a bouncer for long before he wanted to be onto something else. The jumperoos don’t get long at the soft play before he wants to be out and rolling around!

My girl is nearly 7 months, and she’s exactly the same. She positively vibrates with excitement when we do... well, anything! Her little legs and arms go wild and she honesty iust babbles, laughs, throws stuff around and rolls about all day. She’s nearly crawling and I don’t see it getting any easier. I used to be able to get loads done while she was on her playmat, but now I’m constantly checking on her every two minutes if I’m cleaning/getting ready. She manages to wriggle and roll her way to anywhere she wants to be.
We’ve got a door bouncer thing and she absolutely loves it. She’s really strong on her feet too, we can have her standing up against the sofa and she shuffles her way across. She can’t even crawl properly yet, haha! So yeah, door bouncer, walker, interactive toys with lots of lights and music will definitely help him burn all that energy!
Also I’ve started gently prying my girls hands off my face and then turning/walking away from her when she claws at it. I know she’s young and she’s learning through her hands but it’s SO painful and I’m thinking that hopefully that’ll teach her that I don’t want to play if she gets too violent. Of course I come right back and it starts all over again, but it’s all about repetition at this age!

Glad it’s not just me! He’s a hooligan and goes straight for the jugular, and I’m surprised I’ve got any hair left!!

He gets really easily frustrated that he can’t get to where he wants to be and I’m hoping that frustration will ease when he learns to crawl.

But he’s full of smiles and giggles when we’re out and about and playing.

I literally could have written this post 🙈 my ds is 7.5 months old and just wants to roll around on the floor and be everywhere! He's started to commando crawl too so I can't leave him alone for 5 seconds unless he's strapped down in his bouncer on in his walker. Is your LO able to sit up yet or is he far too interested in being every else? Mine is too much of a weeble wobble to sit still. It's so exhausting and I've put my back out fighting against his strength to keep him upright or away from things. I almost miss the newborn stage hahaha

BlueMoon33 · 12/11/2018 19:45

No sitting up here, if I get him in to a sitting position he spots something he wants and launches himself across the room!!
Commando crawling has been mastered this week though, and he’s very close to getting up on his knees and property crawling... However this all seems to come with a huge level of frustration!

My back is often painful and I have my arms in splints often too! He’s an absolute joy, but Christ it’s a full on job. Everyone who holds up goes ‘oh god, he’s exhausting’ and then hands him back to me pretty quickly!

Completely normal in my experience and will just increase as they reach 2 lol
