Tongue tie

My baby is getting his tongue snipped tomorrow to relieve his tongue tie. Has anyone had this done for their baby? Any tips? Many thanks in advance

Very cpmon procedure. For DS2 midwife snipped with a pair of scissors and I was encouraged to feed straight after as a comfort. He screamed but recovered quickly.

Mine had this done a couple of weeks ago - he didn’t even cry! It briefly made matching/feeding worse as we had to relearn how to latch. Although his was ‘wrong’ before, it was working iyswim! 2 weeks on though and feeding is so much better. Make sure you take a blanket with you. At the tongue tie clinic I went to, they swaddle them to do the procedure. Good luck!

How old is your baby? The younger they are, the easier it is. My DS had his done at almost 4months and the actual ship was over in seconds. He cried harder when he had his injections.
Just make sure you wear clothes that you don't mind getting a little blood on (just in case).
You'll then need to breastfeed straightaway as this soothes the pain and stops the bleeding.
I was very happy with the procedure but I did leave with a complex about DS not latching properly.

Baby is 11 days old hoping like you say it’s quick and painless then he can latch on properly from then on

Both of mine had tongue ties snipped (at 11 days and 2 weeks respectively. It was very straightforward, they did cry but were easily comforted by feeding afterwards. Be prepared for it to take several days afterwards for the latch to be 'right': it was about a week each time for me before I was pain free.

Agree with pp about wearing something you don't mind getting blood on: it'll only be a few drops, but the last thing anyone needs with a newborn is shifting blood stains from your favourite top!
