Thats it really. Was hoping that she just needed some catching up, but, it seems she has quite a few things that need rectifying. As if she doesnt see enough HCP's for one thing or another atm .

Sorry, Health Care Professionals.

She has eczma, asthma, serious food allergies, glue ear and possible hearing problems (probably why her speech is as it is). Its just one thing after another for her.

Thanks dino.

SALt isnt that bad tbh, but isnt my most favourite thing to do, dd2 has been signed off till sept when she gets reviewed againm, so at least the summer holidays are SDALT free.

how old is dd?

always baffles me that they start you on the SALT without sorting out the glue ear and hearing first............never did get through to ours that she couldn't HEAR the difference between what she said and what she should say!

Sixofone · 15/06/2007 22:41

Sorry to hear that . I may have a vested interest (being a speech and language therapist myself ) but we are trained to look at what is going RIGHT and to use it positively, rather than focus always on what is WRONG. Your dd may even have fun

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/06/2007 22:42

She's 4.

I know its not the end of the world, and it's all very fixable, but I had got it in my mind that she was just a bit 'behind' but would naturally catch up at pre-school (cept she didnt), and then at primary.

Cargirl - she has been on steroids (up her nose) to try and improve the glue ear, and also drops in her ear to clear wax.

The thing is - the waiting list was very long for speech therapy, and, I wanted it 'cleared up' before she went to school. So it was better to get the referral in as soon as possible.

Thanks dino. I hope you get some help soon for your DS.

Have to say dd quite enjoyed her speech therapy!

Grooveisintheheart · 15/06/2007 22:59

dd2 loves SALT as well. she thinks its great fun

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/06/2007 23:35

DD seemed to enjoy it today. I was surprised though - usually in new situations or environments or with new people, she clings to my leg or something.

I'm giving you a BIG hug as dd is in the same position. I feel responsible even though I've followed all the advice in all the books but to no avail. I don't know what else to do.

MamaG · 16/06/2007 10:08

Aw VVV - my little sis had hearing problems as a child nad had speech therapy. She used to really enjoy it! She was quite old whne she started (about 7 IIRC) and some nasty boys would tease her. I enjoyed punching them for her, but it would have been better if she'd been started younger, like your DD.

My DS (age 3) has just been referred for speech therapy too, for a stammer, so I'm hoping he enjoys it too.

Emprexia · 16/06/2007 13:07

Dont worry. Speech therapy is fairly commen.
I used to lisp and had to go to therapy until i was 7yrs old - i actually used to enjoy it.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/06/2007 19:44

aww thank you, you lovely lot. I am not feeling so sorry for myself about it today. Especially since it is patently obvious that DD enjoyed it yesterday - like you have all said about your lo's. I do feel bad about some of it still though - she had a dummy for a long time and I know that this is also part of the problem.

OP posts:
MamaG · 16/06/2007 22:00

dummy? Oh no, my DS is 3 and still has it at night

Am I harming him? If I'm being dim, I have had wine

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/06/2007 22:11

I wouldnt have thought so mamag. DD had hers all day long and used to speak with it in.

VVV-sounds a bit like dd2, she has glue ear (only just diagnosed though has been suspected for 3nearly 4 years ) and she has been on SALT list for 3 years but has only just started having it regularly now
but because she has managed to get enough speech she is now having to re-learn it so it is better to get it as early as possible.

MamaG · 16/06/2007 22:14
