I don't know what I'm really hoping to get out of this post... DS is 32m old and is only 83cm. I've plotted it in the red book and he's fallen off the 0.4centile line into oblivion. He had sleep apnea and hypoxia until he was 25 months old when he had his tonsils removed, which I thought was the reason for his poor growth (born on 25centile but had dropped to 0.4), however in the last 5 months he's grown about 2cm so he's no longer following the 0.4line and I don't know what to do. According to the NHS bmi calculator he is overweight compared to his height, I wouldn't want to reduce his calorific intake as we are desperate for him to grow. We have also moved country so will need to see a private paediatrician- any specific tests I should ask for or anything else? DH so far suggested checking his growth hormones and whether he has parasites... (dh also said he was small as he walks with bare feet on tiles and doesn't eat enough vegetables, but I don't think either of those things would affect height that much).

And not to drip feed, I'm 9th centile, DH is about 25centile and our 2 DDs have both followed the 9th centile since they were about 6m old (now primary school aged).

I'm in a similar situation with DS2. He's 29 months and until about 20 months had dreadful sleep due to poorly controlled asthma. At 18 months he was just on the 0.4th centile for height. He's now grown a bit and a couple of months ago was just below the 2nd. The paediatrician was quite concerned about his growth when she first saw him and did a battery of blood tests but came up with nothing. She's still monitoring his growth but seems to think at this point he's just small. He is noticeably small/smaller than I would expect given the family though: I'm 50th centile and DH 25th. DS1 has tracked the 25th since he was about 4 months.

Growth hormone deficiency is worth checking of course but I'm sceptical about your DH's other suggestions (how does he think tiles affect things Confused). I do think in DS2's case the crap sleep had an impact. He was late to walk and became noticeably more physically active with the asthma under control.

I was hoping after fixing the sleep hypoxia he would start to jump up centiles like your son, but as he's dropped off the line I'm feeling a bit miserable. Within the last month he has finally started sleeping through at night so usually has about 8-10 hours sleep and before that he would wake about every 3 hours and had only slept through 5 times by the time he was 31months. I know he needs more sleep and should be having 12 hours but it's very hard to force a child to sleep more - if he naps then he won't sleep till much later in the evening and he refuses to ever nap before 1 unless he is in a car (which is very rare).

The tiles with bare feet thing is because they are often cold DH thinks it is stunting his growth as he will get chilly feet.
