just wondering really DS1 will be 9 this year and I've just seen on another thread that someone's DC of 7 or 8 uses deodorant and was wondering if we are a bit late off the mark

DS is 11.5 and doesn't need to use it yet.
My friend's DS is 9 and does need to.

dustystar · 11/06/2007 18:14

I think that it depends on the child. If they are starting to smell from sweating then they are ready for deoderant. If not then don't bother yet.

NuttyMuffins · 11/06/2007 18:14

Think it depends on the child. Dd1 needed to start using it last year when she was 8.

scatterbrain · 11/06/2007 18:14

When they start ponging !

My dd is only 6.5 and we have started using deodorant a few times a week !

frogs · 11/06/2007 18:15

Dd1 is 12 and doesn't need it as far as I've noticed.

sparklesandwine · 11/06/2007 18:21

DS1 doesn't smell yet so I hadn't even thought about it tbh it was just when I read another thread I thought maybe i was being a bit neglectful

Dd is 11 and has just started using deo. I get the organic-y type as I'm not too keen on her using strong chemicals.

Wotz · 11/06/2007 19:17

It does depend on the child and the smell and if they are bothered.

dd (8) is a little smelly but I will delay in using chemicals on her little body until she is bothered.

dd (10) does on PE days.

dustystar · 11/06/2007 19:18

The crystal deoderants don't have chemicals and are really effective. DD is 8 and she uses one now.

sparklesandwine · 11/06/2007 19:21

gosh i suppose i must start thinking about it now then - my little baby is growing up sob sob

my old PE teacher used to say (words of wisdom) 'wash daily your feet and armpits to keep the BO away'.

Days before we all had power showers. I remember my schol mates putting talc in the hair to stop it getting greasy! (no me, I was a clean girly)!

janeite · 11/06/2007 19:41

Suedonim - do you have a brand you can recommend? DD is 12 and has recently started using a roll-on for sensitive skin (Simple) but I'm sure that an organic-y one would be better.

While we're at it; what do your dc's use to wash their faces, if sparkle doesn't mind the slight hijack? She's currently using a Dove bar but, again, I have some concerns re: this.

suedonim · 11/06/2007 19:57

Bionsen is parabens, aluminium and alcohol free. It says 'Japanese Spa Minerals' on the front so I guess that's what it is!

Tisserand Organic Teatree, Lemon and Rosemary Deodorant is the one she's using atm. It has organic extracts and is also paraben and aluminium free. That one comes in a lavender scent as well. HTH.

tigi · 11/06/2007 20:15

ds12 doesn't need one (deoderant).
He uses face wipes, rather than soap, as he gets a bit pimply

scatterbrain · 11/06/2007 20:52

My dd has Bionsen - also has very very sensitive skin and it is fine and pretty effective.

janeite · 12/06/2007 16:50

The Tisserand one sounds lovely. Can it be found in Boots?

suedonim · 12/06/2007 17:24

I don't know, Janeite, as I'm living in W Africa and bought it here. Tisserand seem to sell a lot of body care stuff so I imagine they have a website.
