My 2 year old doesn't play anymore

My ds has gone from playing happily by himself for hours to just sitting or lying down with his blanket. If he does ever play with something it's always the same toy tractor. He would be quite happy to sit on the sofa with me all day. He follows me from room to room and just lies down next to me whatever I'm doing. He gets plenty of sleep at night and a nap during the day, but he just seems so tired. I asked the HV whether he could be anaemic, but we discussed what he eats and she said he is getting plenty of iron. I just feel his behavior isn't normal. Any suggestions?

Happy1, re: peadiatrician, where do you live? I would contact the Coeliac Society and ask them for a list of specialists and then call say five and ask them the cost for the consultation and test.

Hi ChicPea, I live near Swansea. My health visitor has rang the hospital for me and they have promised to see ds in the next 2 weeks. You have been so good to me, I really appreciate your help and support

happy, I am SO pleased that they have agreed to give you an earlier appointment. Well done for persisting.

Hi Happy1. I am pleased to help if I can. Can I make a suggestion? Do you think it would be a good idea to keep a food diary and monitor DS's moods/fatigue so taht you are armed with as much info as possible? Have you tried anything gluten free yet or will you now wait for professional help? I hope that the HV is somebody who knows about food allergies if indeed this is what your DS has.

Very best of luck! Shall watch this thread!(Just nibbling on gluten free sausages from Waitrose (dee-lish) with broccoli + ketchup (gluten free)!

Hello, ds had his appointment on tues, and was sent for blood tests yesterday to check for coeliacs disease and some other stuff. The consultant said he doesn't think it's 'toddler diarrhea' as ds is not gaining weight still, so there is a chance it is coeliacs. We've got to wait now for the results. If they don't show anything we won't hear anything, ds has got to see the consultant again in 3 months time.

Hi Happy1. So glad you are seeing somebody who is hopefully going to help and get to the bottom of things. When are you expecting the results?

happy1 · 15/10/2004 13:27

Hi ChicPea, I'll only be told the results if they show anything, so I assume that would be this week. He's got another appointment in 3 months time to see the consultant.
