At what age would you take the child lock off the car door?

I thought it would be OK to take the child lock off the car door for my 6 yr old ds - he is very sensible and I thought he could handle the responsibility under my supervision. My dh disagreed so we've put the lock back on. Dh thinks about 10 is the age we should take it off - seems pretty old to me - what do others think?

my youngest is 5, soon to be 6 but I wouldn't fel comfortable taking the child lock off just yet. Mind you, he is daft as they come!

Mine aren't anywhere near that age yet but I would keep it on until they were older.

I seem to remember my parents had them on our car for years and years. However as a child I always had a strange compulsion to open the doors as we were driving along ...... maybe that was just me.

my 4yo hasn't had it on for well over a year. my 16mo is probably going to need to have it on for ever.

They are still on my 8 and 5 yr old's doors - mainly to stop them flinging open the door and hitting another car when parked ( that would be the 5 yr old more than the 8 yr old)

Next yr (in yr 3) I have to drop my dd off at a certain place, rather than park, get out and see her in - I now wish I'd paid the extra for the button which allowed you to temporarily turn off the child lock, as I think at 7 she still needs it. If only to save the door flinging!

My 2 are only 3 and 1 but judging by them already never lol.
DD to keep her in the car when it is sationary in Tesco car park and ds because I think he is going to have a compulsion to open the door when we are moving.
i suppose there is no firm age for me just whenever it either becomes more of a nuisance because I will de dropping not parking or when I relly think they are smart enough not to open the doors at the wrong time.

dd1 is 7 now but we didn't have the child lock on when she was 5. BUt she is very sensible.

dd2 then came along. she is 2 now and wants more than anything in the world to be able to open the electric wiondow and throw stuff out lol
so now the locks are on and dd1 has to wait for me to open the door
