Baby's weight

Hello

We've been told that out 10 month old baby girl is in the bottom 25 percentile for weight gain, though her height is just fine.

Can anyone tell me if this currently has consequences for her health and future size etc. She is, i guess, smaller than some babies but she's also just a baby..

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Is she on the 25 centile OP and has she always been on this centile? The. Is she bright and alert at times and meeting all of her milestones?

Hi no she was previously better. Her weight gain just seems to have slowed down. She's very alert and happy etc. A delightful baby (though I say it myself).

Oh that all sounds good. What centile was she born on?

A baby can be on the 1st centile and be healthier than a baby on the 50th. If they start dropping dramatically it CAN be a sign or a problem, but usually they are just finding their lines.

The HV at your weigh-in will highlight any concerns with weight gain etc and refer your baby to the hospital with even the slightest chance of a concern.

If you baby is alert, is pooing and weeing, and developing then it doesn’t sound like you need to worry :)

OK thanks that's very helpful. She was putting on weight a little slowly in her first few weeks only. After a tongue tie operation and resolving a couple of breastfeeding issues she was gaining weight brilliantly. It's just it seems to have slowed down. But she is happy healthy and evacuating all kinds of flavours and consistencies with gusto!

My baby was born on the 25th and is now just below. She is alert, happy and very content yet the health visitor made it sound as though there was a problem (sometimes I think they cause more worrying than they actually help).

You know your baby better than anyone. Unless you feel as though something is wrong I wouldn't worry 😊

My baby was born on the 50th and was below the 0.4th by two months old. There was some worry and eventually investigations (she was only 14lb 3 at 12 months). However she was always incredibly healthy, active and hitting milestones! She's still very light (19lb 10 at 24 months) but we've finally been signed off from the consultant as they're finally happy that she's settled on to her own curve now, albeit a lower one! She's always been 25th for height.
My biggest advice is to follow your baby - are they happy? healthy? active? if so then try not to worry, someone always has to be somewhere on the chart after all!

@FlippertyJibbet88 gosh that must of been a worry for you. We had a gradual slow weight gain from 4 months, from the 50th to the 5th percentile at 12 months now. She's current wright is 15.9oz at last weigh in. It's good to hear that your little girl is doing great, my little one is on the 61st percentile for height so quite tall and slender and sometimes I just wish she was a few more pounds heavier as she so skinny, but in fact she's so cute everyone comments on this. So we may have small babies but they are just perfect and I think they wouldn't have the lower percentile lines if babies weren't supposed to be that light x
