Feeding

My little boy is 15 weeks and is fed with formula. He usually has 5 feeds a day but has started going to bed at 7pm and sleeping through until about 6 and has dropped to 4 feeds. Is this a normal thing? Anyone got any experience of this? Thank you

How long has this been happening - few odd nights or long enough to be a pattern?

How much formula is he having in total per 24hrs?

He has 7oz feeds every time and it has been happening quite regularly but not routinely. I'm just not sure if I'm doing the right thing!

If he’s having 28ozs of formula a day I’d be less worried about the number of feeds. If he’s stocking up in the day he won’t need the feeding overnight.

Is he happy in himself, weeing plenty and gaining weight? If so perhaps this is just the phase for right now.

My baby is the same age and is starting to go 7hrs a night - he’s breastfed so this is pretty good. Still lots of feeds but again it’s different with formula.

Enjoy this while it lasts - every baby will change their pattern over and over again, but based on what you’re describing I don’t think you’ve got a problem. Enjoy the sleeping baby!

He is gaining weight as he should and is an extremely happy and content baby. That puts my mind at ease, thank you very much. I feel like I'm totally making up being a parent sometimes!

Ge should be having roughly 2.5 floz of formula per pound in weight over 24 hours, the number of feeds he takes it in is pretty irrelevant. As long as he’s getting enough using this equation, he’ll be fine [smike]
