8 year old boy still wetting during the day

My 8 year old son constantly wets himself during the day but has been dry at night since 4 years old.

It's usually when he's busy doing something especially on the iPad which I restrict massively as this is when he's usually doing it. Yesterday he had 24 hour ban as I thought this might deter him from doing so but he still wet himself as he was playing with his cousin. I usually ban it for half a day this was the longest he's been off it.

School nurse doesn't think there's any physical problem as he's dry at night. He sometimes gets up during to go, sometimes he goes the whole night without getting up. So he can hold it in for periods at a time when he wants to.

Urine tests have come up negative for any infections etc.

It's almost like he's got FOMO if he takes a break for the loo, he thinks he's going to miss out on fun.

I obviously don't want to make too much of a fuss so not to cause anxiety but my gosh, 8 years old he is he really should be going. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, my son is 9 now but we have been through exactly the same as you describe. Perfectly dry at night, but accidents during the day when he was focussed on something else.

I'm not really sure I can suggest anything that you probably haven't tried already but it seems to have got better, not sure if that's just him being a bit older now. Getting cross definitely made it worse, so I just sent him to get changed when it happened and he wasn't allowed to play on what he was playing with for the rest of the day (usually his tablet). If I knew he was starting an activity that caused a problem then I sent him to the toilet first. Loads of praise when he did go, and we talked about paying attention to his body setting off an 'alarm' telling him it was time to go.

I remarked to him the other day that it had been a few months since he had an accident so fingers crossed! I hope things go the same way for you very soon, I do understand how frustrating it is when you know they can do it.
