Which shoe on which foot?

DS2 (4.1) Has to ask me this every time he puts his shoes on. DS1 always seemed to know.

Is not knowing linked with dyslexia, or is this normal at this age?

An additional question (I'm worrying about school!) What's the best way to teach them which shoe which foot?

While I'm on the feet issues - how can I get my lazy dd to put socks on - she just says she can't do it! (she's nearly 4)

LynetteScavo · 31/05/2007 12:20

DS2 has only just mastered socks.

Get them to put the two shoes together side by side. If the right way around it "looks right"

popsycal · 31/05/2007 16:22

the silly woman in clarks today put shoes on ds1's wrong feet

NAB3 · 31/05/2007 16:38

draw L or R in the shoe or arrows pointing OUTWARDS TO where the shoe should go

loler · 31/05/2007 16:53

I like the arrow idea!

Now any sock putting on tips? - Please?

popsycal · 31/05/2007 18:20

just had an ingenious idea!!!!
get two blank whitew stickers....write the first half of their name on one and the other half on the other

put first half ib lft shoe and last half in right........

depends on them being able to read thier name though...

dd1 (4.2) regualr gets mixed up, although she does occasionally get it right too.

dd2 (2.8) put her shoes on the wrong feet, I told her 'No darling they're on the wrong feet....' dd2 stared long and hard at her feet, then burst into tears, turns out they were the right feet apparantly, as both the shoes and the feet were dd2's and she wasn't about to give either away..........

I do arrows pointing together with permenant marker, if the arrows mee they are right.

I have DSx2. My oldest DS always asked younger brother of 5 years, 'Are these on the right feet'. How can 2 brothers be so different, I could write a book. DS2 keeps him in line on many aspects of his life. DS1 has dyspraxia.

Shoes on the wrong feet is a very endearing quality in children, Lynette. Honestly, it doesn't indicate anything.

For what it's worth, my dp (48) went shopping in Mothercare today with odd socks on and his polo-shirt on inside out.

He's not dyslexic .. but he's bloody cute!

Some kids just take a little longer with certain things.

ZacharyQuack · 04/06/2007 05:28

A friend of mine draws half a butterfly on the inside sole of each shoe. Match up the butterflies and the shoes are the right way around.

katelyle · 04/06/2007 05:46

My ds is 6 and still has trouble with socks sometimes if they are tight or long (like football socks) Don't worry about it-it won't be long before he won't let you help him however much you beg!

ghosty · 04/06/2007 05:58

I used to point out a feature on ds's shoes (something on the outside or inside) to help him remember (eg, the winnie the pooh picture on the side of the wellies go on the outside)
DS is 7 and we still have a problem with socks every so often. I catch him in his room stamping on them, shouting, "STUPID SOCKS!!!"

adath · 04/06/2007 08:04

Like Ghosty said a feature on the shoe is a good thing to use, velcro is a good one because it always fastens out the way or a picture on the outside or whatever, dd when she gets new shoes now never needs to ask the only shoes she has problems with are her black plimsoles for nursery cause they have no prominent features and she always puts them on the wrong feet.
